Now taking orders for Thread Loves Paper!

The idea for Thread Loves Paper came to me when I was working on My ABC Book. Being a research fanatic, I was looking at samplers cross-stitched by young American women in the 18th century. Musing about their thoughts as they patiently worked the alphabet, I thought about how fiber art has played such a big part in the lives of so many. Being involved in the making of artist books, I decided to look at the use of thread (how so ever loosely defined) and paper.

I love to look at published works about contemporary artist books: for inspiration, admiration and my own collection.  There are the marvelous how-to instructional books and then those gorgeous coffee table varieties. Delicious! However, nowhere did I find one that talks about the uses of thread and paper in these works or why artists chose these materials. I set out to write my own book, gathering examples from contemporary book artists.

The book was printed in China and is now ready for sale. It consists of large color photographs of 28 different works with accompanying text in the artist's own words. In addition, there is a bit of history about covers, bindings, embroidery and altered books. Thread Loves Paper can be ordered through this web site on that date. The cost is $20 per book but that includes shipping and handling. California residents please add $1.70 per book.

Please go to the store (see above) on this site to order using credit cards and Paypal.
